This is one of those songs you’ve likely heard on a tv advert in some form but may not necessarily know where it comes from - it was used extensively for itv drama promotions last year for example. I listen to it often but still find people asking me who the artist is so thought I’d share. If you’re not familiar with the very talented Josef Salvat then allow me to introduce you. He’s a singer, songwriter and producer and, along with Sia Furler, Kylie Minogue and Dame Edna, one of Australia’s finest exports. Speaking of Sia, it was actually Josef Salvat’s cover of Sia’s ‘Diamonds’ (originally penned for Rhiannon) that catapulted him into the spotlight when Sony opted to use it in their 4K TV marketing campaign - which is where I first heard him. While the cover of Diamonds is definitely worth a listen, it’s this track that got me hooked. Shoot & Run not only showcases Salvat’s lyrics and his Del Rey-esque moody writing but his seriously impressive falsetto abilities. That boy got range! This is the live version of Shoot and Run which perfectly showcases Salvat’s natural talent. His album is definitely worth checking out with plenty of other notable tracks including ‘Paradise’, the oh so funky ‘Closer’ and ‘The Days’.
